JackB1, It's been to the dealer everytime it made any noise, They never looked further to see what's causing it to go bad. They are the experts, not me (not on newer cars). As far as customer relations, that was a joke, they would forward me to other people & tell me to call BMW assist, even when the car was sitting in my garage, not along the road. I'll take any help I can get. I am hoping they find the problem so I can actually use the car. It's not a cheap investment to have just sitting in the service dept. all the time especially on these nice sunny days.

Guess mine wasn't a vapor lock but it didn't happen again!

I am not a mechanic but I listen and judge the answers I get based on the source. Something tells me that after four fuel pumps, it has to be something else. Your search is for the source of the problem, not more fuel pumps, but why the dealer can't fix it.

If the dealer is no help then go higher . . . then higher. The story you should be telling is the how you can't find the fix, not how many fuel pumps it takes.

Did you make an appointment like they said? If Scott Pettit had friends in high places, then maybe he can get an answer to why no one in BMWNA Customer Relations has taken your case serious.

JackB1, please read my entry named "finally" I have complained to BMWNA Customer Relations many, many times, all they would tell me is to make an appt or call BMW Assist. From what I've read, this is not only a pain in the butt problem, but a SAFETY ISSUE also. If there is a vapor lock your car will stall & won't start up for 5 - 10 minutes, how safe is that if your on an 8 lane highway? Right now, I'm so fed up with this car (this is my 2nd Z) and feel very un-safe in it, so I'm willing to take any help I can get.

Scott, thank you very much. I've been going through this for almost 4 yrs, same problem & many trips to the service dept & turn around & drive home, because they couldn't duplicate the problem. The flat bed truck picked it up AGAIN Friday. All these nice days & I'm without my car. I've called so many people at BMWNA & got no where, I had my car at "Homecoming" 2 times in the Tech Tent & talked to people (I won't say names here) from BMW of NJ that lied to me saying they would help, but never did. Finally there's hope. I appreciate it Scott.

I can't comment on your other groups but I work very hard at maintaining a relationship with a number of key individuals including those who tell the others what to do. They know, that I advocate for both sides of the issue and they have seen my honest efforts for both the consumer and the corporation, which may be why I get some satisfactory results. Not all of the time, but many times.

Also, you may notice that I do all of this for anyone and not just ZSCCA members, as long as I feel that the issue is something that I can help them with. There have been a few times where I felt the issue was something that the individual needed to deal with on their own. Not that I wasn't interested.

The reason that you see me refer to my contacts without divulging their names is because some of them are the types who sit in board rooms and not just an office. It has enabled me to circumvent the normal CR personnel and go straight to the decision makers.

I hope that tis answers any question that anyone has.

It's novel that you offer to stand in and all,

but do you really feel that you have any success stories dealing with BMW NA that achieved more success than an individual owner would have?

Honestly, I mean no offense, but many of us have been around BMW's for a number of years (23 myself) and seen all sorts of BMW special interest groups (my personal experience is with Club Racing) that carry much more clout than the ZSCCA get nowhere with BMW NA or corporate. Call me jaded, but I have very little confidence that a rep from a small fringe group is going to have any success either. We're just not that important to the big guys and IMHO someone would have to be smoking something to think anything would come of this that the owner couldn't achieve himself if he wanted to pursue it.

Again, I know this must come off as trying to shoot you down, but that's absolutely not what I'm trying to do. If anything, I guess you could say I'm just trying to help you save the time and energy. I know you've said before you have "contacts", but if I had a dime for everybody that had a "contact" at BMW NA I'd be a rich man.

The people in the tech tent are all volunteers who do good at the moment and can write a note for you to take back to your dealer - that's the best they can do.

Call BMWNA Customer Service. Start a case file. They are your next step.

I have contacted BMWNA. Actually, I went to the "Homecomings" in Spartansburg & took the Z to tech tent, they heard the noise. Talked to a lady named Staci Derm, (something like that) she was supposed to contact my dealer also, but never did. She just pawned me off on a man named Heath, now he pawned me off to another person. So here we go again, & again, & again.

I had the same sound coming from my fuel pump -

Fuel pump made a loud roaring noise when I started engine and it stopped after a few miles. I finally took my Z4 by the dealer. The Service mgr said "drive the gas down below 1/4 tank, then fill it all the way up, then drive it at least 50 miles."

It worked! Never came back! I didn't have a faulty fuel pump!

Vapor lock? Fuel pump working harder? I don't know!

Z4Z4 - You fight is with the dealer and it is to be yet proved that it is a faulty fuel pump. I would think that three more fuel pumps makes the point that it is NOT the fuel pump but something else.

Bad responses from dealer means you contact BMWNA Customer Relations in New Jersey!

4th fuel pump

Actually, this will be my 4th pump. This problem started when I had only 900 miles on it. It now has 12,000 miles on it.

Scott, I have e-mailed you with all the information. This will be my 4th fuel pump replaced as soon as BMW quits giving me the run around. I am still under warranty, and I'm being treated like crap.

All of a sudden, BMW doesn't want to send anyone out to hear the noise. They started a new service. A service rep came to my home in November and heard the pump (after the car runs a while the noise quits until the next start up). Now, they don't have time. And we all know, if they don't hear the noise, they won't fix it.

JackB1, they never said why the fuel pump keeps going bad.

But, I do know if I don't get this resolved, I will take legal action.

Not one word here about why the pump made noise !

I sure can't drive it the way it is. I think this car will probably always have this problem. They will be putting my 4TH FUEL PUMP on. That's rediculas. How can you enjoy a car that has constant problems?

3 Fuel Pumps????????

I have a 2005 Z4, 12,457 miles on it. I had the 1st fuel pump replaced at 450 miles, had the same problem while at BMW homecoming 2 times, had it back to the dealer 6 times. BMW reps at Homecoming said they would get in touch with my dealer, that never happened. Each time I took it to have it fixed, the noise went away by time I drove 80 miles to the dealer. SO, the last time it made the loud noise I called the dealer to have someone come to my home to actually hear it, which he did. I HAD to drive it to the dealer for them to replace it again (2nd time replaced). Well here it is, I put 400 miles on it and the NOISE is back. Nice sunny day & can't drive it. I'm so fed up with this car and BMW. I thought while it's under warranty they are supposed to flat bed it & bring a loaner??? NOPE, I had to drive it back & forth, 80 miles, 2 days off work. I see that the 03-04 Z's had recalls out. I can't enjoy this car, I always wonder if it's going to stall on the highway. Thanks for letting me vent. I would like to hear from others with this problem.
