...or just "flip-it!"..(the gas cap gasket)... ..remove gas cap gasket(2ez)..flip it over and you have a "new" flat mating surface..issue with caps is often due to corrosion on filler lip(ALL are effected)..i put a light smear of petroleum jelly on gasket with each refill..keeps surface clean and smooth..Z3 Cheers! dk '97 2.8 bg R

Re: Let keep things simple....more Thanks, I have an autozone just down the road I'll see if they can check the codes. Also thanks for the news of the zfest!
Re: Let keep things simple....more
Let keep things simple....more Don't just check the gas cap, put a dab of oil on the gasket or better yet, replace the gasket for a buck or so at your dealer. It may take several start / stops over a couple of days for the CEL to reset if the cat is the cause. Go to Kragen / Auto Zone / Pep Boys- they will usually check your codes for free. If you are serious about doing your own work, get a PEAKE code reader. Welcome to this forum. Be sure to check out the Z Series Car Club of America at www.zscca.org we are holding our annual national event in Southern California this Labor Day weekend. Re: No Bavarian Autosport.... I'll save that site. Thanx for the welcome the Z3 is acually my girlfriends, the Boxster S is mine....now the race is on to see who can "not" get a ticket by summer's end ;)
Re: No Bavarian Autosport....
Re: Z3 Thanks All! Checked the gas cap, no issue there. and set up a visit with my mechanic to have the codes looked at. Hope to Z you around!
Re: Z3
Check for a loose gas cap
No Bavarian Autosport.... forget their names: too many bad stories. They have the bad habits of advertising parts as OEM but then send you a Chinese replica that regularly fails... Sometimes catastrophically. There's few places that I can recommend hands down: one of them is oem****************... The Z3 & Z4 have the same rims/tires so the one on the Z4 would fit your car perfectly. We have only on set of rims with snow or A/S tires and we switch them from one to the other depending on which we take snowboarding. As for the CEL it could be one of two things (well, could be many things, but these are the popular picks), generally: 1) check the rubber intake boot, going from the air filter housing to the throttle body. It always cracks around the harmonic of the slit that goes to the idle control valve 2) the exhaust camshaft sensor has gone south. In the case A MUST is to buy it from the dealer or bet the BMW one from oembimmerparts. The aftermarket sensors will fail again. In this case you'll need a code reader to diagnose it. Re: Z3 to add.... check out Tirerack.com or Bavaian Autosport (bavauto.com) other tire sellers to see if they comprable wheel styles and sizes listed for the Z3 of that year.
Re: Z3 Personally, I'm not much for driving the Z3 in the snow. Z3's of that year had 17in rims standard I think, but could use 15 and/or 16 inch rims. You'd be better off with a 15" or 16" rim with snows anyway. In regards to the service engine light, I recommend taking it to a decent independent that works regularly on BMWs. They'll tell you what is wrong and if it is critical.
Re: Z3 Have the codes read. Or by yourself a Peake tool and do it your self.
Z3 Newby for the Z3 arena so sorry if this is a repeat question. Just bought a 2001 Z3 (3.0). I might have a chance to get a free set of old snow tires/rims for a 2003 Z4 (3.0)...would these fit on the Z3? Also, "service engine" light comes on for a day or two, then will go off for a day or two. It does not flash. Initially the dealer (chevy) said it just needed a new battery and it was replaced. A week later, light came on for 2 days, now its off again...any advice?
