Look@the coolant temp in the OBD cluster display(m

When my temp wouldn't reach the 12 o'clock position a few years ago the OBD temp display showed ~70C. This was just after I put the Zionsville radiator in. I found a small piece of aluminum stuck in the t-stat keeping it open. Zionsville said it wasn't from their radiator but it sure looked like it was. I bought a new t-stat before I took the old one out not knowing it was the aluminum causing the problem. The temp went back to normal.

My M5...

...('00, 11/99 build date) does that. In Aug. and Sept. it seemed to take awhile (longer than my '97 528) to get to the 12 o'clock position, if at all. But now that it's cold the needle seems to go only as far as, I would say, between 11 and 12 but closer to 11 o'clock. The oil temp guage seems to stay around the dot between 100 and 210 degrees. The car heats up as quickly as the 528 and I don't get any codes. Would this be indicative of a stuck therm. for the M5?

Same thing happened to me last week when (m)

it was near 10F. Temp gauge only went to 11 o'clock or so. Had new thermostat & housing installed and all is well, not to mention MPG increased too:)

Generally a stuck-open t-stat will do that...

but, you should post the car's year-model-mileage to help with an accurate response. Some models/years have electronically controlled t-stats, and symptoms may vary.

For the past 2 days the temperature gauge is not

going up to 12'oclock position as always did and stay there. For the couple of days the temp as been around 22F and the gauge gets about 11'oclock after driving for while...is that normal or something is starting to go bad.. Like the thermostat?
