Re: If you had . . . . . . . . . . .
If you had . . . . . . . . . . . well then Mr.NoDriveByWire , you need to inspect from your gas pedal all the way to the throttle housing for a problem and if you did have drive by wire? you DO NOT buy used gas pedals, and you DO need to order the securing clip.
If you had . . . . . . . . . . .
Re: If the plastic clip always breaks when removed, You are right it does not look like the drive by wire pedal assemblies I saw on line. Does that change your opinion of what the problem could be?
Re: If the plastic clip always breaks when removed,
If the plastic clip always breaks when removed, how is it going to be intact on a used unit? And where did you get that number? Not even the right number of digits as far as I can see. When I look up your car, it looks to me like you have a Bowden cable connecting your pedal to the engine, and not drive by wire. Can you examine and confirm which you have? Is this your unit?

Re: sticky wickit Thanks for the input. If I buy a used pedal/footrest assembly with sensor, will it come with the plastic clip in tact? Also, the p/n looks like it would be 259160-10 -is this right?
Re: sticky wickit
sticky wickit try a new gas pedal - really - it contains a position sender, very commom for it to be sticky no lubrication or adjustment possible just replace the gas pedal assembly and get a new plastic securing clip - the old one will break on removal. It's just a plug-n-play. no programming needed just an opinion though............. it could always be something else ?

throttle delay I've got a 1999 328i with manual trans. When I put in the clutch before shifting, there is a delay in the throttle before it drops off so the it makes it sound like my foot is still on the gas after the clutch is in. To say it a little differently, there is a little spike in the rpm when I put in the clutch even though my foot is not on the gas. It is annoying. I've had a number of manual trans BMW's and have never run into this before. Could it be a throttle position sensor or a sticking throttle valve? I've had the car for about 2 years and it has around 160K. It runs very well and the clutch seems okay.
