The British always get ripped off on car prices. The manufactures always blame it on the need to put the steering column on the right. That's a fair excuse to add a few pounds to the price, but not what it usually ends up at.
When I lived there, I saw a used E46 for sale in a dealership for over £40k. For a while, people were going over to the mainland to get their cars much cheaper, but the gov't put an end to that with extra taxes.
