Help.. if you owned a '01 w/73,000 miles and...
.. you were told it needed:
a new thermostat (due to leaking)
water pump
2 real ball joints
2 power steering hoses (due to leaking)
Crankcase Vent Value (due to leaking)
approx $2K total
Would you:
1) Replace item(s) first
2) Replace all
3) Replace nothing and sell the car
thanks!
I would at least replace the leaking parts...
But if in doubt, get a second opinion....
Re: Help.. if you owned a '01 w/73,000 miles and..
If you plan to sell it then, I would think a well conditioned M5 would sell much faster than one leaking power steering fluid, anti-freeze, blowing blue smoke on startup with a poor idle quaility and noisy rear suspension, don't you? In fact, I don't think it would sell.
so you're questioning if it's worth it to put 2k
into a 40k car. How can this even be a question? I'm not quite sure i understand. Why would you dump the car just because it needs some typical maintanance? I would fix it and continue on with my life.

True... Went to look at a 2000 M5 a while back...
I'm still walking around the car, and notice an after market exhaust, Dinan if I recall correctly, I mention this to the sales guy and he jumps in the drivers seat and starts the car, then proceeds to rev the engine, to show off the exhuast sound i presume, but he also creates a huge cloud of blue smoke...
He's like, "do you wanna take it for a spin?"
I'm like, "No, I don't need to test drive this car... Thanks."
Fix it - it's a NO BRAINER!
4) Give the car to me and I'll fix it :-)
