Just wondering. Most of you have E39s and up...too rich for my blood, or bank account for that matter.

The 850s are beasts, but I heard the V-12s were a pain to maintain.
Really cool cars. I remember drooling over them when they came out in 1991??

I use mine as a daily driver so I cheated and got the V8 for gas purposes (that decision is paying off now!). E31s have the rep as being hard to maintain, but incredible support on roadfly's E31 forum, so much of the work can be DIY to keep the costs down if you choose. Since the car has the same engine as the 7 series...it is not totally unfamiliar to shops for fixing. Parts still pretty easy to come by also.
Cars were from 1991 to 1997...roughly 6000 were brought to the states during those years. Pretty rare and unique styling so the car often turns heads and is still mistaken for a new car/style.
The E31 had the same effect on me when I first saw it as when I see a beautiful woman walking across the room at a party. Early 90s were not the haydays for automotive styling, but "wow" was the first word that came to my mind when I first saw it at the BMW dealership down the road from my house.
Yeah, the V-12s with today's premium gas prices...ha!

I will forever love the lines on the 6's!!!!
A dentist from two buildings over has a pristine M6 with less than 40k miles. Red and tan and original everything.
Man I love those 6's

with over 215k miles on it. Loved that car, but it had to go since I couldn't garage it anymore. Would have been inconsiderate of me to put her outside after she had 10 years of being pampered. Found a good home for her though. While I loved the E34...I'll admit the E28 is so much better looking.
and no sign of breakdown....I have to tell you though, my favorites all time, E23 and E38 :-) Mary
With the M20 engine? I heard the M20s are pretty much bullet proof. I'm on a quest to see how many miles I can get out of mine (325is). I'm hoping to get at least 250k out of it. Currently it's at 168xxx and going strong.

That is the engine! I remember my mechanic telling me that @ 100k it is now "broken in"...at 300k you will want to replace it not because you have to, but because you'll want to. The engine will still be going, but you'll see, feel, and hear it wanting to be rebuilt. Now the transmission is a whole different story!! Look to have 2-3 trannies for the one M20 engine.
Because my trans is still working ok. My input shaft bearing is shot and I need to rebuild the shifter (maybe time to get one with shorter throw...z4 2.8??), but the gears are running strong.

Mine was working ok @ 200k plus...but that was with a couple of flushes with/and having synthetic fluid. It was just starting to get sluggish in shifting when I became obsessed with prolonging it. After my Flex Disc shredded on Hwy 99...I was very close to pulling the trigger and replacing it @ 150k miles. But it was my daily driver not a racer so I only took care of the flex disc. I've heard this is an american transmission in our very german cars!!!
