Thump from rear end
It's most noticeable on on-off throttle transistions, but it's been getting worse recently and is making noise at all speeds now. It isn't related to the steering wheel and is not as loud on smoother roads. There is also no rhythm to the noise, so I've been leading towards the transmission or differential mounts. I seemed to get the loudest noise in reverse today, so I was thinking it might be the rear diff mount because of symptoms I've read in another thread. The only thing is that from the drivers seat it seems to be coming from the transmission area. Guibo is less than 50k miles, driveshaft is new (was replaced to try to fix this noise). Any ideas?

Re: Thump from rear end
I had the exact same reaction to mine... thought it was coming from the center of the car (transmission, drive shaft etc... ) but as soon as the mechanic stood outside the vehicle as I backed it up, it was obviously coming from the rear diff mount.
Have someone stand outside the car and listen as you back the car up (or you look as someone else backs it up) I didn't have to move two feet for him to ID the problem.
He said it was a pretty easy fix ;-)
Hope that helps,
Michael

Re: Thump from rear end
Thanks, nice to hear I can locate the sound easily, I was ready to remove the mount to check it before I ordered the part.

Re: Thump from rear end
No problem... mine was so bad you could see the diff moving when you looked up at it (well, the mechanic could ;-)
