2007 328XI uncontrolled acceleration
My wife dropped me off at the train station this morning. We pulled into a parking space when her car’s engine went into full throttle by itself. The car jumped the curb and hit a tree before coming to a stop. We are okay, but the front of the car is smashed.
Is anyone familiar with a similar situation? Since I was with Eileen in the car, I know that she did not “floor” the accelerator pedal.

Boy that will be a tough sell! Never heard of such issue.

Driver error is always a possibility; however, Eileen has had a BMW for the past 10 years.
What if she was parking and accidently hit "resume" on the cruise control. Would the car try to resuem to the previous setting of 60 mph?
No resume unless going at least 25 mph...it's
very unlikely that it was anything but driver error. However, it's a possibilty that mechanical failure caused it and I wouldn't get behind the wheel of that car until the problem found and repaired...NO WAY!

She hit the wrong pedal. There are 2 potentiometers in the pedal to insure drivers request is correct. There is also another mode with the braking system that can be tested easily. Hit the gas at full throttle and hit the brake at 75% or more. The engine will assume stall speed every time. There is no mechanical jam to cause this. The throttle is one of the most monitored systems on the car. Also check for a loose floormat that could lam the accelerator pedal.
