Clutch broke - pedal goes to floor... Any ideas?
Got in my car this morning and pushed on the clutch pedal. It went all the way to the floor with no resistance. Ignition allows it to try to start, but the clutch is not disengaged. Care to take bets on what it is? Clutch master, slave, hose, or something else?
'98 Z3 2.8
When this happened to me it was the slave cyl.

Slave cylinder very typical failure mode
One good reason to flush the brake fluid on these cars every 24K miles or so is that the rusty water accumulates in the lowest part of the system, which is usually the clutch slave cylinder.
It is not an expensive part, a small PITA to replace, and a rite of passage if you own any BMW long enough.
I think I have done four so far. Not all on the same car, of course.
Sometimes, if it has failed like that, you can "pump" the clutch pedal enough to get the car into the barn to work on it. But probably not a safe way to drive on the road.
