ne1 seen/tried this non-OEM Nav System

Stumbled across this and it looks pretty good at a glance (for those of us who don't have a factory nav system and don't want to (or can't) do the expensive, labor intensive retrofit! I just traded in my 98 528i, which had the upgraded factory nav (6X9) screen and DVD map but that leaves me with a 2002 530i without nav.

At a glance this looks pretty good, I was curious if anyone has tried or have investigated this unit.

I have a Garmin; has free updates for the maps, Bluetooth; sit on top of the dash; cost all of $100 on sale. Works great and I can take it in any car.Fritracer

I also have a TomTom... at least I think I do, I'm not sure exactly where it is in my house... which is one of the problems I have with it. Certainly there are specific trips where I know I need it, I find it and I take it with me but there are other times when I'm out and the wife and I decide to go somewhere else, run an errand, and we didn't bring it along. Of course in my 2002 530i, which is where I'd install it, I still have some damage to the metal that surrounds the window, where a thief broke the side window and stole the other TomTom that was mistakenly left there. What a pain in the but dealing with that whole scenario.
I just like the idea of an integrated system, I think that was one of the reasons I enjoyed driving my 98 528i vs the 2002 530i more (that and the heated steering wheel ;-) )

If this aftermarket turns out to be a good functioning system with very few negatives, I'm certainly going to consider the purchase. Then the wife and drive the other car we just got, a 2006 Lexus GS300.

...I ordered one back in June. It was supposed to be coming directly from China. The company's website said units were in stock, yet all I got was promises of "...it's coming in two weeks. Please, will you wait...?" My order was for the radio and a back-up camera. My total was $611.00 and some change or something like that. By September, I had had enough and demanded a refund. Thankfully, I used Paypal. I was charged some sort of admin fee that this company said was charged by Paypal. I was so pissed I didn't even argue; I got my money back (minus $25.00) and chalked it up. I was more thankful that I got any sort of refund at all.

To this company's credit (no pun intended), they did respond to all of my inquiries within 24 hrs. or less. Still, if the item in question is not in stock and not immediately available, that needs to be made very clear upfront. Here is the comany's web address. The radio itself "sounds" (sorry, another pun) like a sweet deal but unless I can actually put my hands on one before I buy it, "ain't nuttin' happenin'" as far giving up 600+ bills to "order" it.

Thanks for that heads up. It is sad that they could not hold up their end of the bargin. I'm guessing they either had some production problems or they were sending the bulk of their inventory to resellers like UMNITZA.

I'm sure someone has gotten their hands on these units so hopefully someone will step forward and give us a hands on review of how the unit performs and how difficult the installation is.

...I'm still kind of interested in the unit. I saw some photos on eBay of an E46 with one of these units designed to fit the contour of the E46's dash very nicely. There my be someone from the other board that actually got his hands on one but I'm not sure if they live here in the States. The whole scenario really left me with a bad taste though. I was really looking forward to trying it out.

Dynaving

Hualingan

Two different vendors make similar products.
Dynavin is made more for early e39's w/o nav. Plug & play but you will lose mid capability. Can relocate mid to glovebox.
Hualingan requires the removal of internal dash hardware to fit.
Hualingan was designed more for the X5 with a curved face.
Dynavin looks more like oem, but had to compromise on the top part being thick to avoid not having to remove the structure behind the faceplate.

I use my code function ALL the time.

I would of bought it just for the touch screen and the USB and Mem card abilities.
You can also gps track your vehicle if its stolen, no waiting for lojack or a stripped burned out shell.
They use windows mobile operating systems on most of these units, i even saw one with android. So the possibilities are endless if your tech savvy with programs that are available.

when not in use; out of site of theives. It would still be cheaper to buy another Garmin for the wifes car than that aftrmaket system you are looking at and you can easily update the Garmin by plugging into your computer.Fritracer

Still looks interesting to me. Maybe add a backup camera to the setup and then I'll be set.
