California Emission Warranty - VANOS
Forgive the possible redundant question...(couldn't find directly linked threads)
My VANOS has failed and I am past the 4yr/50000mi warranty on my 2005 M3. However, the warranty booklet that came with car has a list of California Emission Warranty items that includes VANOS. This warranty holds up 7yr/70000mi in California.
Has anyone on this board recieved this warranty coverage on their car between the 4yr/50000mi and 7yr/70000mi period? What did you have to do?
My service advisor missed it last week and wants to charge me $5k.
I didn't agree and need to bring this CA Emission Warranty to their attention.<p align="center"><font face="copperplate gothic light">'05 M3 Coupe Interlagos Blue/Grey

Re: California Emission Warranty - VANOS
Mine's also failed outside of warranty but I think I was still in the 7 year time period. I didn't know and ended up paying about $3500 for the repair. I'm guessing it failed at around 68K miles so I thought it was out of the standard warranty.
Also FYI, there is an aftermarket company that seems to have a good product (I have never used them before, so do your research). I only found out about them after my Vanos was repaired at the dealer. Overall, the dealer repair is doing well at 88K miles.
If it happens again, which I hope it does not, then I would try the Dr. Vanos route as they seem to promote a better rebuilt than factory product. Try at your own risk though...good luck.
