I have an 85 bmmw 745i and was wondering if anyone knew of any other cars that may use the same type of external wastegate. I can order a new one from Germany, but would like to be able to get one local if I could, and maybe save some time and money. Thanks.

not sure if its similar or not, but audi turbo cars that are all over the junkyards have external wastegates
is indeed an external one, but it is not at all swap-able for the one used on the M106 motor. In fact disregarding the mounting differences for a moment, the Audi WG operates exactly the opposite the Bimmer one so it's a complete non-starter.
Does anyone know if a K26 from an Audi or Volvo would fit on a Detroit 638? Unfortunately I am still waiting for the numbers off the one on the truck, but the truck is a 2000 Hyundai/Bering LD15 with the 3.8 Detroit Diesel angine and Allison transmission. Thanks for the help.

EVERY THING IS TROUBLE .I JUST WHENT THOUGH TURBO PROBLEMS FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT .THAT MOST OF THESE 3.8 DETROITS THE K 16 IS THE MOST COMMON HOWEVER THE K26 WAS AN POWER OPOINT TO MAKE IT WORK YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE INTAKE EXHAUST TO MATCH THE K26. HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU. ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME !!!
