Cold start problems on 2003 X5
Here is my problem. I start my X5--no problem--back out of the driveway and put it in drive. When I press down on the accelerator it sounds like it's in neutral and I'm gunning the motor. Sometimes it takes 20 to 30 seconds for it to "go." This only happens on a "cold start."
I took it to the BMW dealer, they did a diagnostic check on it, and told me they had several other X5's that did the same thing. That it was a computer chip problem, BMW was aware of it, but they had not sent them the "fix." In the meantime, I am not a happy camper.
Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Sandy
This has been a problem before
There was a recall in 2001 for the gear selector switch. It was getting corroded or dirty making a delay in the gear selection. It was supposedly redesigned. It sounds like this is the switch again in your case, but maybe the dealer knows something new.
Re: This has been a problem before
Thank you for your input,Digi. They didn't mention a thing to me about it perhaps being a gear selection switch. I know I did ask if it was the transmission, and they assured me the transmission was fine.
