I have a theory about the price structure
I think there are a list of different prices where the parts person can quote any of them. They do it based on what they think you will pay. At Alderson in Lubbock, I had made several visits there where I was quoted outrageous parts prices over MSRP. The parts specialists then made the realization that I was smarter than I looked (a man in a suit) and then began quoting MSRP. Since they don't sell parts below MSRP, I buy parts at Moritz when I am in town.
Re: Dallas Dealers are Screwing us!!! (long)
I just got charged $105 for a standard oil change at John Roberts with Oil at $12 a quart.
"oil change" or "oil service" there's a difference
As a follow up... why not use Casterol Syntec -
It is also approved by BMW for all new models requiring synthetic oil and it is much cheaper. Walmart sells a 5qt container for $19.00 and change. I have been paying ~4.40qt for years at Cosco for this oil. I have used this or Red Line in all my cars since the mid '80's with zero problems. I recently put 100K miles on a Jeep V8 5L - no leaks, usage or any other problems. Now have 80K on Volvo turbo - same story.
And Syntec 10-40 is in my '01 e38 as we speak - no problems. An oil change with filter runs around $40.00. Re: Dallas Dealers are Screwing us!!! (long)
Hey, how much did you pay for that car? Is it a lease deal?
You're bitching about oil price?
Buy it from the west coast for $9.00/litre. By the time you pay shipping and considering the time ordering it will cost you more. Or make the drive to Arlington to save a few bucks (nothing against Moritz).
If you are really shopping just to have some oil on hand for top up you sure are wasting a lot of time.
I'm a former employee of both John Roberts (now Dallas BMW/AutoNation) and Moritz BMW. I'm amazed at people who will spend big bucks for a car and then nickel and dime on maintenance/parts expense.
Pissed off about dealer gouging? What did you expect when you bought your BMW?
Get a life, and sell the car before the warranty expires!
Hou: have had both extremes on this topic....
Same named dealer just different locations. One location will comp a single liter of top-off oil under warranty. The other one charged me the $15/liter price on an unscheduled oil change once. I had to call the other location and get a quote, then explain to the SA that their sister dealership is only charging the $8 price. All the prices are pumped, you just have to know to call them on it.

Ask For Book list Pricing...BMW of Dallas
When you purchase your maintance products at BMW of Dallas, request for "Book-List" pricing before the PartsSpecialist entrs it on the computer. You will get MSRP pricing ALL the time. Pricing is regulated automatically by the "Autonation" ADPPC system network, so Parts guy has to override the system. When they;re in a hurry out of habit they don't overide to " Book list"... try it. They are even closer(miles)then Moritz...and more knowledgable. I deal with a couple guys there, very friendly. Remember though before they enter info into the PC, ask for Book list..
This coming from a former employee...
This coming from a former employee of a DFW BMW dealer really opens the picture on how or why the dealer behavior to overide the MSRP.
Nothing wrong with it really, from your point of view, its cents here and there. In truth a dealer may overide the MRSP as it pleases.
It comes down to the customer to be aware, and this e-mail is just that, an awareness on the behavior of DFW BMW dealers.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with Roy trying to get a fair price.
We have the same problem in Houston and with Porsche its even worse.
