Re: Wait a [Oops!] second! Do I see a wager?
Okay, let's make the wager more finite. $100 says we see $5.00 a gallon gasoline national average by June 2008 and $7.50 national price average by June 2011. I'm not sure how we could set up a wager on the other issues. They are all open to debate, but if you see one, sure. Sounds like fun.

Now wait just a second. . .
If you really believe the articles, then you should be willing to bet that by 2010, there will be massive war on a global scale caused by fighting over the few precious oil reserves left. That's what the model you are espousing predicts! Heck, I'll even give you to 2015. 2020? Come on, if you are going to make a claim, stand behind it!
You don't like betting on war? Okay, that's understandable. Let's go with another of the predictions: civilization will crumble within a handful of years. Again, I'll give you until 2015. 2020? What, you're not comfortable predicting that we are only 10 or 15 years away from civilization crumbling!? What kind of doomsday predictor are you!?
Alright, we'll make it easy: we'll bet on whether oil reserves dry up within the next 20 years. Still not willing to take that bet!? Hmm.

"oil and the good American soldiers who have died
to protect it". This is a wrong perception. We're not there for the oil. Terrorists attacked us in New York. Remember? Saddam Hussein threatened us with more attacks right after that.
Facing that reality, we have replaced a dictator who has threatened us with a Democratic government. Establishing Democracy (and education) in an area rife with anarchy & dictators will tend to settle & calm the area down. That Democracy actually works, is what worries the dictators. They & the powerful families want to keep their power & wealth.
Iraq is not about any oil depletion that you are depicting. You are confusing the issue.

Re: Now wait just a second. . .
Bubba, you need to read all my responses to all the posts before you go off claiming you understand my opinion I'm not willing to stand by it. Secondly, you are starting to sound like a man with a chip on his shoulder and wanting to punch out someone for it.
I'm not sold on the doomsday thing either, just that we will be paying A HUGE price for gas soon and it will have a HUGE economic impact on the way we live.
Re-direct your anger somewhere else...you need a vent... not a message board...
Hope I provided some anger management therapy for you as a valve to blow off some steam...
Have a good weekend!

oh...
and we needed to go into Iraq, why?? If 9/11 is your reason, wrong reason. We had Osama Bin Laden who orchestrated the attack cornered in Afganistan and let him go. Hmmm, could it be the ties with Bush his family has established that promoted that move?
Could it be we went after Hussien under the guise of fighting terrorism to protect oil interests of our present reigning family, administration and economy? You have to conclude these are possible scenarios.
Don't always believe what you read in the papers...
Have a good weekend!

you just proved my point...
I could sense where it was going from the beginning and there was no solution. You just proved it to me and I didn't waste any more time on it. That being said, what should I do? Worry about it? Wear a poster board and walk up and down the freeway telling people that we have to stop using oil? Oh yeah, we can't stop using oil...the article said so. It seems the only possible solution presented is to do nothing and worry yourself sick over the dreary future of mankind and therefore I'm not going to bother...kind of reminds me of Agent Smith in "The Matrix" when he called human beings a disease. I don't particularly care to be called that so I'll just enjoy my life, thanks.
OK, I'm done with this topic.<body link="#000000" vlink="#000000" alink="#000000">

Five bucks in 2008 already paid $3.20 in
Kalifornia a month ago! That is so weak.... If your idea of catastropic prices is $5.00 to $7.50 then can be no wager.... And a hundred bucks for a wager that will be in escrow for six years? Wow you are a solid believer. <font color=white>just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, just filler, </font color=white><center><a href=http://www.z3bigdaddy.com/page12.html>

Can't handle the heat?
You come to a message board with some casual reference to a pretty radical claim. You are challenged about it and don't respond. You then come back to the same message board with the same radical reference. And you take heat for it. And you are completely unable to back up your silly claims. And then you admit that you won't even stand behind what you have posted.
You can't post something radical, claim that it is true, then disclaim any belief in those claims, and not expect to take heat for it.
And thanks for the psychoanalysis, but I do just fine on my own when not presented with laughable theories by someone who can't explain them, substantiate them, or offer a solution for the problem. Have a great life, according to your theories (oh wait, you have disclaim belief in them) it will only last another 10 or 15 years.

ANWAR & Gulf of Mexico
There is more Oil in ANWAR than in the Middle East and there is more oil in the Gulf of Mexico than in ANWAR and thats not factoring in whats in the rest of the US and surrounding waters and they are finding more oil every day. In 100 years when we run out technology will have replaced oil anyway. You've been watching too much CNN.

Hmm. No new investments, huh?
The theory you propound includes a claim that the oil countrys/companies aren't making new investment in facilities because they already know that we have reached peak oil. But just today, it was announced that those countries/comanies are making some of their the biggest investment - EVER. Doesn't sound to me like they see an imminent end to profitability.
