A 150 hp 4cyl for 25k+ might not sell,and if it sells it will cannibalize mini sales.An affordable 6 cyl will cannibalize 3er sales,all that with nearly identical production costs and a weak dollar.
Americanos don´t like hatches,so they have to make a costly coupe shape which is irrelevant in europe,all that with a weak dollar and there is still the engine problem.All very complicated.

it probably will never happen and if it does it will be a weak motor so it will not take away from e90 sales

They might put the 3.0L in it, and sell it for the price of a 325i, so it's profitable, and expensive enough not to canibalize E90 sales - in the US, not a huge number of people will buy the cramped 1 series instead of the roomier E90.Chris
