Dangerous to drive with worn shock mounts?

One of my iXs just started making a thumping noise from the right rear when going over bumps. My mechanic is on vacation for a week - I am a bit of a mechanical novice. Three questions:

Can you tell from sound or behavior if it is rear suspension carrier bushings or rear shock mounts?

Is it dangerous or damaging to car to drive with either needing repair? (just short distances)

Bimmer mag suggests using e46 rear shock mounts are better - thoughts?

    Many thanks.

Re: Dangerous to drive with worn shock mounts?

With the rear shock mount worn, you'll be able to clearly differentiate between a worn shock mount and worn bushings. The knocking sound is usually much higher up ( location-wise )since the mount is located atop the lower rear suspension components.

The E46 mount does work better and I would recommend it.

I don't think it would be 'dangerous' to drive around with the mounts worn. Just don't neglect it.

    Don't go to long

It might start ripping up the upper sheet metal

Would these from eBay be the right ones?

I just installed new sport shocks and Eibach springs on my car, and I probably should replace the rear shock mounts just to be precautious. Would these from eBay be the right ones to buy?
