Safety Issue E65/66 "Parking Brake Lurch"

Does your car have "Parking Brake Lurch"?
My new 750i "lurches forward or backward, depending on last gear used, when parking brake is set and put in park and engine shut off. The "Lurch" occurs about 5-6 seconds after engine is shut off. A very dangerous situation if someone is walking between parked cars. Not to mention the spilled coffee as you start to get out of the car.
Local Dealer played "dumb" on initial report, then said it was a "Normal Feature of The Car" when I picked up my car. I now understand this has been a known issue with the E65/66 for many years.
I believe what happens is - when the parking brake is set, all four brakes are engaged. When the engine is shut off the four brakes release and the two rear parking brakes take hold, causing the "Lurch". Sometimes the movement is so pronounced that the vehicle jams into the parking gear, causing a "clunk the next time you put the car in gear.
Anyway, has anyone gotten this "Feature" resolved, or does it need to be reported to the NHTSA?

Try setting the parking brake, put car in park, shut off engine, wait 2 seconds and release your foot off the brakes and get out of car. I've noticed parking brakes take a second or two to fully engage and haven't had a problem with the procedure I just mentioned.

The lurch (while noticable) does not seem to really move the car too far.

I have had a strange thing happen yesterday with autopark. I really like the feature. In fact I am so used to it sometimes I take my foot off the brake when the stupid thing is not in autopark by habit... Now that's dangerous....

Anyway, I was at a red light in autopark for about 2 minutes. When the light changed I pushed on the accelerator with my foot. The car did not budge and a warning came on and said the parking brake was on. Sure enough the electronic brake somehow switched from autopark to park (green to red).

Very strange.

If you lift yourself up (for example to pick something up from the rear seat) the autopark switches to parking brake. This is a safety feature triggered by a weight switch in the seat cushion incase you leave the car while in autopark.

(on your steering wheel) a second time- before it gets released by pressing the accelerator pedal - it will set the red parking brake - push the wheel button again - then it will be ready for accel release.

The words "Bug eyed sprite" brought back many memories - what a "beautiful car" did you own it long? My favorite sports car of the era was the MGB or the Lotus. Wish I could say I owned one of these.

the green autopark light changes to the red parking brake light.

try slamming on the accelerator when the damn thing switches to park and you did not know it... The thing chimes, hisses, and spits. Not to mention you feel the poor car fighting itself as you slam on the accelerator with the brake on.

Maybe it should chime, hiss, and spit when it changes from green to red so that the driver is aware BEFORE he is about to slam on the accelerator.

Was there any developments that came out of this thread? Was this eventually chalked up to "normal behavior" for our cars?

I know most folks have said that this is caused by the switch from hydraulic to electronic park brakes, but that would only make sense if the car rolled in the direction of a decline. When sitting on a level surface, there would be no force acting on the vehicle to move it, certainly not the switch from one brake type to the other. It seems to me that the Transmission is somehow storing energy and not releasing it when the brake is applied so that when the car is turned off and the hydraulic brake released, the energy somehow stored in the transmission is released. I know that sounds crazy, but that's the only thing I can come up with. Any ideas out there?
