Do you hand wash your Z8 or run it through the car wash?

My car has never been in a Car Wash. When I have it serviced I make the last item on the list- Please do not wash(scratch) "My Baby"!!!

I'm wondering the same thing. I've only washed my car by hand, and yet, after two years, I've wondered about running it through a touchless car wash, just to wash the chassis, etc. Why not? What could it hurt to just get a high pressure wash, hand dry it, apply a winter coat of wax, and tuck it away for the winter? What am I missing here?

I've got a buddy that owns a high end car wash. He demonstrated to me how a "touchless" wash is certainly no worse than a good hand wash and potentially better than a inattentive hand wash. You could accidentally have a piece of sand on your sponge or towel for instance.

He washes his 360 Modena in his car wash every week and then has one of his guys hand wax it with Zaino. It's black and it looks perfect.

Bottomline, today's high end car washes are fine. Just don't bother paying for the extras (undercariage sealer, foam wax, etc). They're practically worthless and you're going to hand wax it anyway.

Run a Z8 through a car wash? For shame! That's like letting a stranger give your wife or girlfriend a bath. Sure, they'll end up clean but what does it say about your relationship? And why would you want to in the first place? Those gorgeous curves just beg to be caressed, fondled, lingered over. Think what you'd be missing! No, the Z8 is too special for the local Scrubbys. It needs to be pampered by hand, not subjected to an impersonal "touchless" affair. Wake up man! You're going out with the girl of your dreams, don't take her to Denny's! Grease Monkey

There is a similar analogy as it relates to keeping your garage queen locked up instead of having a "normal" relationship with the car..

I think the original poster must have been joking around or we just have a massive difference of opinion about the proper care and maintenance of a beautiful car.

many recycle the water and I have yet to see them break out new towels for the next car- never mind the next body panel. When I wash the car I use different towels for different panels. Anyone can make the mistake with some dirt, so you have to be vigilant. Would you expect the guys earning minimum wage who are doing car after car after car after car after car after car and so forth to maintain the same level of vigilance on a car that is not even their own as you would? Neither would I. Car washes are great for suvs and beater cars; not Z8s. On the flip side, if I was the owner and I could guarantee everything would be fine then maybe its fine to run the car through. Most of us don't own our own carwash and thats the problem!

I'm just lucky. The Car Wash is owned by a very close friend with whom I went to H.S. On top of that, the guy that supervises the drying is our cleaning woman's husband (who, with his wife, is now a US citizen due in no small part to my wife's efforts). My car gets pulled off to the side and gets dried by him alone.

Which just made me think of something. He does most of the prep and washing for a Mercedes dealer and they use something called "Mopar Master Shield" on their cars. He gave me a bottle of the stuff the other day. Anyone ever heard of (used) this stuff?

The only time I ever took it to a car wash was when I drove down to the Z8 driving experience in South Carolina, stopped at a do-it-yourself to get rid of 1,500 mi. of road grime, bugs and brake dust.
