Need help! X5Integrated Garage Door opener set up
I am having trouble setting up my X5's integrated garage opener. I have a std. garage door opener that changes codes dynamically (like most people with homes 5-8 years old) and the std. method of holding the old remote down to "learn" while holding the old remote (handheld) does not work.
I looked at the instructions and that does not work as well. Any suggestions?
I have held the 1-3 buttons to clear the memory of the on-board opener. I reset the garage door and did the learning function as well. It worked for re-setting the 2 handheld remotes but not the on-board X5 integrated remote. Please help. I was messing with this for 3 hours and had to jump start my car (battery) this morning...not too smart. I called BMW and they only know how to do the old technology garage door openers that does not change opener security codes dynamically.
Thanks alot.

Re: Need help! X5Integrated Garage Door opener set
I also had trouble programming my 04 X5 (and other cars with HomeLink)
After repeated calls to HomeLink and Genie, I finally talked to someone who told me that not all the remotes are compatible with HomeLink. Specifically I have 3 button Genie key fob remotes, and the biggest button does not work. Programming my car was just a matter of programming another button on the remote to work with the door, and then programming the car.
Using this method, you can program multiple garage doors from a one button remote (these seem to work better anyway) Just program the remote to work with the door you want to control, and then program the car, per the instructions in the manual.
Good luck....

Re: Need help! X5Integrated Garage Door opener set
All the links say exactly the same thing (step 1 - 7 etc., bla,bla,bla,.....). The one KEY thing none of the websites (or instruction manuals) say, is the distance that you hold your remote from your mirror inside the car, when trying to program the car, makes ALL the difference. I struggled for hours before realizing that you should move the remote closer or furhter away from the mirror, until it is at the optimal distance to "learn". This is a trial-by-error operation. For my car (a 2009 BMW X5) I had to put the remote right up against the mirror before it worked.
