    Each cylinder gets the same amount of air.....

    as opposed to one throttle body trying to disperse the air to all cylinders. An electric motor runs the throttle bodies.

    throttle response and torque

    with each butterfly being closer to the cylinder it more directly controls the air, therefore the engine responds more immediately to throttle. the difference vs single body is not huge though and most people wouldn't notice.

    another advantage is that by putting the butterfly in each intake tract it's easier to maintain flow velocity at partial throttle for better cylinder filling. this means improved torque and responsiveness at low throttle openings. wide-open it makes no difference. with drive-by-wire the computer can match throttle openings precisely to rpm and the engine's air needs for optimum output, so even though you may have the pedal buried the throttles may not be fully open until the rpm is high enough to need it. yamaha actually puts a secondary butterly in each intake on its R1 motor to do this. the main butterfly is manually controlled, the secondary is run by the ECU.
