Me too, but I love the new one too...

I am a BMW purist and felt the same way about the new M5's SMG until I drove it. BMW finally got the system right. I never liked it on the M3, but this is completly different.

I had a progression of 5 series BMWs. I traded an e34 1994 530i/Dinan5 for an e39 540i sport 6 speed, with the Dinan stuff too. Planned on an e39 M5 when it came out, but I never felt any sort of attachment to my e39, it had no feel.

A year later I started searching for my '88 M5 (purchased with 37,000 miles), and never gave it a second thought. That was until I drove the new M5. This car may get me back in a new BMW (BMW brought back the steering feel), but I do want to wait until BMW irons out the normal first year problems, and I still have hopes for a Touring version in the US.

I'd buy the M5 Touring in a flash......

I'm currently waiting for the new M3 in a couple of years to decide whether it'll be the M5 or M3. I went from a 2002 M3 to a 2003 M3 to a 2003 M5 back to a 2004 M3....all M3's with SMG (I love it on the track). I sold the E39 M5 for the same reason...no feel to the car. Lots of power but no soul.
