Unfortunately that price in the PDF is............

....... a "manufacture suggested price", the dealer price will usually be higher. I went through this with a Dodge when getting prices on-line at their web site, the dealer price was higher since the prices were merely "suggested".

You would have to pay for it

If your 8000 cradle had a problem it would just be replaced with a 8000 cradle. Now if they were no longer available then you may have some luck with BMW, but it would take a lot of pushing.
The conversion isn't cheap to switch to the 9000, it involves a phone module, cradle, wire modification, programming and bumper antenna.Probably around $2500-$3000.

    Nope

Nope - if you have a CPT8000 and an early in the model year car - BMWNA says it won't work. Something due to the fact that the early build 2002's can't be updated with the CPT9000.

BMWNA said that they are working on a CPT8000 retrofit - but our cars will probably be the junkyard by that time...

    Re: BMW Bluetooth Upgrade Module(BTUM)

I just picked one up at Rasmussen BMW in Portland (for 295.00)
There are 2 parts, the module and a filler.
It looks pretty simple in the direction (I need to buy a phone now).

    CPT8000 vs. CPT9000

    OK - I have a V60i - is that an 8000 or a 9000? If it's a 9000, then what is an 8000?

I "suggest" they all sell the stuff for the same

I know but hate the fact that dealers will charge whatever they can get away with. MSRP should be maximum.

    That sucks

How hard can it be to build a similar device for the CPT8000 cradle?? Doesn't sound like this thing is rocket science, just a wireless connection device between the phone and the car's jack.Joe

    Re: CPT8000 vs. CPT9000

    It's a 9000.

    congratulations.

There is an ebay seller who has now listed three with a buy it now of $250 plus shipping.

Someone bought one from under me. Someone else has now bid up to $355 and I just bought one for $250. I would suggest keeping an eye out to see if this seller has more.

The search I used was "bluetooth upgrade module".

    An 8000 in a 2003?

I have a 2003, with an 11/02 build date (confirmed by VIN decoder) that has an 8000, could this just have been placed in by the dealer or did I just caught in "The Trap"?

Re: Yes, very nice, but the part is on a..............

    Got mine today.

Paired up with the Treo 650 right away.

However, the treo continued to reboot and reboot. Need to work on the favorites list as I have been told that will cause the problem.

If not I will update the firmware.

Will let you know when I get it to work.

    PS .... less than MSRP.

    BlueTooth upgrade Report

UPS dropped off the BTUM and it was installed in less than 10 minutes.

The hardest part was figuring out which way the spacer went into the cradle.

I have a Motorola RAZR and the two devices found each other and paired up.

One suggestion -- write down the BTKey, which is on the backside of the BTUM, before you install it. You need it for the pairing process. I wrote it down in the BTUM user manual.

The pairing process went fine. The phonebook transferred. The manual says that it transfers from the phone, first, then the SIM card. The address book has a 500 name capacity.

In anticipation of the BTUM's arrival, I programmed a few voice dial entries. They worked. The dashboard keypad works as well.

One problem - there is interference, evidenced by a buzzing noise, in the system. This is acknowledged in the manual. I have the same problem with the BMW BT kit in my E39. The phone needs to be kept away from some of the electronics. I haven't figured out the right place for it yet.

Nice job, BMW. It would have been nice if you had given us a head's up, though.
