Z8 HardTop

Hey everyone,
My name is Richard, I am from Montreal and I am brand new to this Forum. I have a 2005 330ciM and a 2005 x5 4.8. My Girlfriend's father on the other hand has a 2002 Z8 and has been dieing to get his hands on a hardtop.
Since Montreal is a relatively small city, not that many Hardtops lying around, I found this forum on google hoping to find someone who is interested in selling a Hardtop for the Z8.

If anybody has one, knows someone who does have one or knows where to find one, please post it here.

Like I said before, it is a pleasure to be a part of this board and hope I can find what I am looking for sooner than later.

At first, I thought I should post the color, which is metallic silver. But then again it can be repainted and I am convinced he is willing to go that far to get one. I am not familiar with the inside lining of the hard top, but his interior has black leather and I am not sure if or how easy that is to change.

I suggest you keep scanning eBay as the tops sometimes come available. The biggest issue will be shipment as the top is very easily damaged. The crate that was used to ship for the 2000 MY (the cars initially were not delivered with the hardtop) were half the size of the car, and even then there were constant reports of damage.

It would be best of a top could be located that could be driven to and mounted in the Z8.

I recall there was a silver hardtop available on ebay from Irvine, CA BMW not that long ago. Don't know if it sold though.

So far,
BMW said that they can only get their hands on used ones, more specifically a red top that will have to be painted. But I will most definitely inquire further.

I would be pissed off if I missed that, because I do keep an eye out. But then again, I am not sure if I would choose ebay for such a fragile item. I have been screwed before...

I heard that a new one costs around 11k. As much as I love BMW, they sure know how to overprice their accessories...

I'm curious as to what happened to the hardtop supplied with the car? You should know that all Z8s came with a hardtop as stanbdard equipment so your girlfriend's father's Z8 had a hardtop at one time. Grease Monkey
