Sunroof Leak - Fried Self Level Module
Hello,
I am looking for some input on my current X5 Situation.
2001 X5 4.4 55k miles
Took car in for brake job when lining light came on. Dealer found leak and traced it to plugged drain holes. Dealer had first thought it was sunroof cassette leak, but later retracted; stating no leak in sunroof. Drains fixed for $300 labor.
2 days after I pick up car - it rains.. 4 brake light and parking light bulbs fail in rear of car and self leveling suspension goes in active.
When I changed the bulbs, noticed pool of water in spare tire compartment.
Take it in to dealer. Sunroof has leak and has fried self leveling module, park distance control module and trailer hitch module.
$2500 to fix. But they do take the $300 from fixing the leak a week earlier off the bill.
The real pisser is that I had 6 repair attempts includeing new sunroof tracks, and entirely new sunroof cassette, replaced headliner, etc.. over the first 2 years I owned the car. These were to fix a rattle and a leak.
The dealer says the sunroof cassete warranty is 2 years and as this last replacement was 2.5 years ago, the won't cover it under warranty. Dealer says they went to BMWNA and the best they would do is knock the price of the replacment sunroof cassette by 700.
I don't want to pay a cent for the repair.. Dealer should eat some costs and Bmw the rest in my opinion. This will be a deal breaker for me - this is my 4th new bmw and will be my last if they don't pony up.
Am I expecting too much? Anyone have suggestions on how to help?
Thanks,
Taylor

Re: Sunroof Leak - Fried Self Level Module
Hi,
I just bought my X5 in Sept. 2005.
As you know there were heavy rains in New England.
I had a leak thru the ceiling control panel. Went to dealer change entire cassette. Next day same leak. Went back and they kept the car for two days and said the drain was overflooded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the sunroof supposed to be water tight when closed?
Any contact E-mail or phone at customer support at BMW USA that you know?
Thanx,
Marcel.
