Trade-in for '00 M5 with high miles? What would..

Trade-in for '00 M5 with high miles? What would..

    Hey all,

Ok, I never thought the day would come but I am considering trading in my 540i/6.

Here is some background info on both cars...

Mine: 2000 540i/6 still under CPO with approx. 77600 miles

Theirs: 2000 M5 not under CPO (being sold by a used car dealership) with 84,200 miles and they're asking $37995.

    Here are the questions:
    1. What deal would you ask for (negotiated price on my car as a trade-in plus the negotiated price of the M5)? CLEARLY they are asking WAY too much for this car. They are asking above KBB RETAIL.

    2. Given the dealer decides to go with your offer in #1 above, would you still consider getting this car? What big ticket items do I need to worry about that might be wrong with this car?

Just thought I'd post this for thought.

    Thanks!

Way too much for their car-

That's way too much for the M5- i just bought (from a BMW dealer) an absolutely spotless one-owner anthracite/blk/alum 00 M5 with 30K miles, no dings/accidents, for 35K, and there are several others around here for similar pricing. I don't know how much your 540i/6 is worth, but their M5 is probably about 5-8K to0 high, at least-

Some things to consider, or use to get the price down.
1 Clutches and flywheels usually go at about 60k
2 Radiator and water punp/therostat usually go about 60k
    3 2000 M5 requires 6.9 liters of 10w60 oil, sold by dealer.
4 Rocker cover gaskets often leak oil into the spark plug area and if not attended to can cause coil failure.
5 Mass air flow sensors can go anytime (mine at 42k)
6 Intake and exhaust sensors can go anytime but are easy to replace.

Even with this I love my M5

2000 M5 46k Carbon Schwarz, Dinan stage 2 suspension, Dinan exhaust, and Dinan software.

I would not buy it. He is asking too much and besides that it is not even CPO. One thing breaks and you have to pay an arm and leg to fix it. If you can't afford a 2001 and higher, do not even bother with that one. As I said it could get very expensive to fix, especially since the first year models had some issues.

Asking price too much. You could find a pampered

one owner M5,with records, for less than that.

Waaaay to much for the M5

Just bought an 02 with 37k miles for $38,200. Admittedly was a smokin' deal, so the 00 with those miles is likely worth somewhere in the low 30's
