Gas prices
I do see your point about gasoline prices. In fact I imagine that many people driving nice cars either find themselves driving them less often to save money OR simply lose interest in continuing the constant funding of their automotive gluttony.
Many times I have considered how much money I could have saved if I NEVER bought an expensive car . I also considered how much I might have saved if I never took a vacation. I also considered how much I would have saved if I had not gotten married and divorced a few times (lol) . In retrospect --education can sometimes be expensive but overall I am so glad to have lived my life and feel that I hope to continue enjoying myself. The car brings me so much happiness and for the extra money spent on gas --I am still going to get one.

Re: Talk about Flat!
E46 M3 certainly depends on revs for its power, building to max torque at 4900RPM. I'm sure the character of these 2 motors is going to be completely different. The S54 engine is designed to rev and the car is geared for it. It pulls hard all the way to the redline, and you have to wind it up to get everything out of it. I doubt the bi-turbo will be anything like it.
One thing I do wonder about with the new engine is if the oil change intervals will be shorter, and if there will be a "spin down" period required before switching off the engine, like many other turbo cars.

I agree
You shouldn’t have to sacrifice anything IMO. When I was in school we were told about a book called "The Millionaire next door". Some one in the class said "You mean the man with no life next Door?". The entire class laughed. As long as my Daughter is taken care of (college, etc) and my retirement funds keep growing, I’ll spend every other cent on me. I can’t believe that some folks would give up all of the joys of life just so they could die with over a million dollars in the bank.

Unless your retirement funds are yours
If your employer is managing your retirement, they can change it anytime they want. Its not garaunteed or grandfathered.... Trust me... I know first hand. I've worked at the same company for over 27 years and if I had the same plan I had 10 years ago, I might be retired now at 45...
