car because of the mileage which I'm not trying to do. The estimate mpg is great for these vehicles, however my commute is forcing me to be more practical and buy something that gets better city mileage.

A diesel would do that for me. If I could guarantee 80% of my commute time would be at 45+ mph, I'd be happy to own another BMW, however the reality is that any car I own will spend most of it's life in rush hour traffic. I love the 335, I think it looks great, but my days of crawling along in a $40K+ automobile getting 17 mpg during rush hour is over.

I'm looking at the 335i Coupe standard equipment and options list. My ideal options would include ZSP + leather. But I only see leather as part of premium. On the E90, I know that leather is a standalone option. Any word on leather being a standalone option on the E92?

below from german car fans it has a chart showing mpg. If those are true figures....BMW sure knows what they are doing. Its hard to believe its getting 30 mpg combined, thats sick, especially with the hp and torque the motor is producing.

I'm not sure if thier "combined cycle" is the same as ours (U.S) but my 330i gets about 20 mpg in the combined cycle. I have a feeling that turbos will become the norm in a few years for all makes. Which is fine by me I love Turbos.

The all-new Coupé bodyshell clothes the twin-turbo 3.0-litre engine in the new BMW 335i SE that develops 306hp and 400Nm of torque between 1,300 - 5,000rpm. With such performance statistics, the 335i forms the pinnacle of the new 3 Series range.

The 335i SE Coupé accelerates from zero to 62mph in 5.5 seconds, and, if left unchecked, would travel on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. This level of performance is made possible by two turbochargers, each supplying compressed air to three cylinders each. The use of two smaller units ensures that the turbochargers react more quickly to changes in the throttle position all the way to the 7,000rpm red line while also eliminating the previous scourge of turbocharged engines – ‘turbo lag’.

The turbocharged engine is also considerably lighter than a normally aspirated powerplant of equal power. In the case of the 335i, the new twin-turbo six-cylinder engine weighs approximately 70kgs less than an eight-cylinder engine of corresponding performance. This weight advantage benefits both fuel economy and weight distribution.

BMW’s all new high-precision Direct Injection system also aids these high levels of performance while also benefiting economy. Piezo injectors, located centrally in the combustion chamber between the inlet and exhaust valves, deliver atomised fuel in a conical burst into the chamber to ensure a smooth, efficient burn.

Piezo crystal injectors work when an electrical current is passed through the crystal to create a very precise and consistent fuel delivery. The result? Only the exact volume of fuel required is delivered into the combustion chamber on each cycle guaranteeing that all the vapourised mixture is burnt. This method of injection also serves to aid combustion chamber cooling, thus offering a higher compression ratio. As a consequence, the new car delivers an average fuel consumption of 29.7mpg on the combined cycle."

I can confirm there will be a diesel motor option. (X5 3.0D)

The Bi Turbo gas enigine will eventually make it into most 6cyl BMW's including the 5 series and the X5.

Good news is I will be having a beer in the next couple weeks with my cia contact. I will have more info then and I will share.

Give me a couple more weeks. I can say, the diesel news is big!

PS. The 4.8is X5 replacement should be a bi turbo V8 to be introduced in the next 7 series.

I was told the folding hardtop is a go, though.

M3 and X5 now. I know for a fact there is at least one M3 prototype zipping around Northern NJ. I will post as I find out more.

British gallon = 4.5 litre. US gallon = 3.8 litre. No way a 300HP engine pushing a 3570 lb. car is going to give 29.7 mpg (US) combined .
