Most collectable XJS?
Ok....time for your opinions.....which year, engine, model...2 seater or 4 seater and colour etc......do you think will be the most collectable XJS in the future? The XJS seems to be hitting bottom and I suspect in 20 years the remaining cars that are nice examples might begin to climb in value.
My guess for collectable ones might be a late production '94 to '96 2 seater with the V-12. Although froma practical point of view I'd be tempted to buy the 4 seater 6 cylinder....I've got 2 kids. But I'll have to wait a year or two before I can slip the purchase of another car past my wife.

Re: Most collectable XJS?
I've got an interest in the XJS convertible.....but I'm torn. I love the V-12 but the better gas mileage of the 6 does take the sting out of driving it. I have a need for a 4 seater convertible......but I prefer the pre-facelift tail lights.
As you can see.....I can't get all the features I want in one model year.
Frustrating to say the least.
Looking into a crystal ball....will the convertible V-12 or 6 cylinder motor be more collectable in the future....in your opinion. Anyone care to offer their opinions?

Re: Most collectable XJS?
Easy Answer:
The First XJ-S, the first XJS (Facelift) the last XJ-S the last XJS the first TWR XJ-S the last TWR XJS....
The Last 5.3, the first 6.0L etc etc
If you don't get what I'm saying, if you don't have some sort of milestone XJ(-)S then I think they are of similar value due to the number made and the years of production.
The later models are of course much nicer in terms of creature comforts but the early XJ-S cars are rarer due to their "wonderful" quality.
I happen to have an '85 car - neither early, late, limited edition or concourse quality but it is slightly rare in Australia as it is a TWR "Enhanced" car before TWR were factory approved so for me it is valuable....

Re: Most collectable XJS?
My recently-sold XJS was a '94 coupe (brooklands green). I read that only 678 AJ6 coupes were produced in '94 before the switch to the AJ16. The AJ6 like in my old car was Jag-designed whereas the AJ16 from about April '94 onwards was a Ford derivitive. 1994 was post-facelift and the first year for dual airbags, so if those are indicators, I'd say the guy who bought my car got a hell of a deal... Also JagJim's car, that sounds like a keeper :)

Re: Most collectable XJS?
I finally got my dream car...it took long enough....she's a 90 XJS V12 white convertible with a blue top. She is beautiful...when I am driving her I can hardly breathe. She has a revving problem though and I couldn't get her through emissions testing today. Anyone know what that could be? When she first starts up she doesn't do it, but as soon as she is warmed up she starts revving. Help!

Re: Most collectable XJS?
I would bet that the Cannonball XJS's are probably some of the most collectable. They were built in Australia and were stock xjs's that were dechromed, repainted and modified in an extremely limited number. They were named after the illegal cross America race. There were only 11 made. If these are not the most collectable, then they are worth alot more than most! Check it out!

Re: Most collectable XJS?
Cars are a horrible "investment". Buy the one you love and love to drive. That said, I believe the 94-96 model years (I have the 94 xjs-c) are probably the most desirable simply from a reliability standpoint. Look for one with the inline 6. This engine is simple to work on and quite reliable. The rear brakes are now mounted outboard making servicing much easier. The list goes on.....Again, buy it, drive it and who knows what good things will come in the future.
