I had this code once when I first purchased my 99 Convertible. Someone told me it could refer to something as simple as a loose gas cap. I cleared the code, tightened the gas cap and never had the code again.

I'll try this. I know our gas caps only have one click so I figured there was no real way to tighten it.

it is sealed when you turn it in one quarter of a turn. there is a recall on the gas caps. if Jaguar knows who owns the car (you have to register at a dealer website or jags website) then it comes in the mail automatically.

I went to the Jag dealer by me last week and they said they new of no such recall. Would happen to have any reference number or anything I could take to them?

I got the new cap in the mail with a letter from Jaguar. only some models were covered. I will see if I can find the letter at home tonight.

Thanks that would be appreciated because they're saying there's no recall for me.

have a look under the car to see if one of the vacuum hoses has ripped loose. there are some vacuum hoses right behind the throttle body for EVAP that can come loose too. you need to take the plastic cover off to get to them.

    Re: P0455

    I have a 2003 4.2 S-type.
Shortly after I got the car I got an engine malfunction warning.
After taking it to my mechanic; it was determined that I had taken the gas cap off while the engine was running and thus generated a malfunction code. It messed up the emmision system somehow.
I don't take the gas cap off with the car running--no more problem.
The only other engine malfunction was traced to the fuel filter (27,000 miles on filter). Again, after changing the filter, no more problems.
I don't know if this would apply to an XKR ro XK8 but check it out.
