First, you would have to splice-in the different style DSP plugs.

If you do not have navigation, you would need to wire and install the DSP amp controller next to the radio. This is pretty easy, as it only needs power, ground, I-Bus, and lighting signal.

The speakers that come with the DSP system are a little better than those that come with the standard Hi-Fi system, so now would be a good time for a general speaker upgrade too.

Next, the DSP amp has subwoofer outputs, so would would want to either install the sub deck on the parcel shelf, or just install an aftermarket subwoofer.

Perfect thanks for the help its exactly what i wanted to hear ..

I do not have nav and wont be installing it but i do have the 4:3 screen is that ok and will it still work?

Also any places that i can buy new or used amps like this?

If you have the 4:3 screen with the TV module, that is in the "tad easier" category too. The TV module works just like nav and controls the DSP amp if it recognizes it.

eBay is probably the best place to buy a DSP amp. Also, try to find one that came from a car equipped with navigation (or TV), and preferably an E38. The reason is that the coding tells the amp what type of car is controlling it. If a DSP amp from a non-nav car is installed in a car with nav or TV, the amp will shut off after 30 seconds. You need to get the amp re-coded in your car to correct it. Here is my detailed post on the DSP amps and what to look for.

Hi Brian,

Desperaterly seeking detailed info on how to retrofit the DSP amp into my 7/2000 M-sport 728i; my car comes with sat nav and telephone system; have checked behind the HU but no 17pin plug point there; have the DSP amp harness and DSP amp;please tell me where to splice/connect the DSP wire harness. Thanks.
