    Engine Won't Warm Up?

    Greetings,

We had our first cold day and I noticed engine will not warm up to normal operating temperature, and heat will not work, like warm, and ideas. 1998 528I.

    Thanks, Mike

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open.

Water pump with worn plastic impeller and/or sticking thermostat - both known issues on that model and vintage.

Yes, a worn impeller would make it overheat

Re: Yes, a worn impeller would make it overheat

Thanks everyone, was most logical answer, but with so many sensors all over engine, thought it might be that. Never overheated, so if impeller was shot in waterpump, I would expect that to be obvious symptom, so will post back with what I find out.

    Thanks, Mike
