    Optional wheels?

A check of the VIN for an E28 M5 I'm looking at indicates optional wheels:
    780 BMW LM-RAD / M PARALLELSPEICHE

The car has the stock basketweaves (NA-spec) now, apparently purchased at some point by a previous owner.

Anyway, is the option code above correctly translated, and were M-Parallels of some sort available in '88 (I thought they were an E39 M5 thing)? I'm wondering if the option code has been correctly interpreted, as I've seen some codes recycled in later years for different options.

    Anyone?

    Re: Optional wheels?

The only wheels that were available for statside delivery were the basketweaves. Some euro cars (as mine was) were fitted with the standard 390MM TRX bottlecaps.

    Re: Optional wheels?

I agree with the comments here about the re-use of option codes.

Option 780 was originally described as "BBS wheels 7.5J x 16" - at least, they are on the BMW GB spec sheet for my own car that was printed 10 years back.

It appears that this option code has now been re-used to cover the parallel-spoke M-Technic wheels on later cars, e.g. later E38's.

Another example is option code 078 which originally covered Special Paint shade "Green/black metallic" (Petrol green in Germany, I think). 6 cars were thus supplied in GB.

This option code now has the description "Turkis hood" with (I presume) "hood" having the GB meaning (convertible top) rather than the US meaning (which we call "bonnet").

    Regards
