650 recall for TCU replacement
Has anyone experienced the recall to replace a 650 TCU? My car has been in the shop for two weeks waiting for a new TCU. Dealer indicates BMW has not provided a delivery date for the new TCU. The delivery date could be two more weeks or more. It appears that BMW did a recall without replacement parts being available. I called BMWNA and the person that took my call did nothing more than call the dealer and confirm that the dealer did not have a delivery date for the TCU. BMWNA did not provide any support. It appears that the TCU recall will be a significant issue for the 650 and other series cars. It also appears that BMW is very short on replacement TCUs and may not have any at all. If you get a recall for the TCU make sure there is a replacement available before you take your car in for the recall. The 650 is a great car but BMW has not provided their normal level of support for this recall.

Maybe they aren't ordering them correctly?
Sometimes they need a PuMA case authorization to do it, they should call their parts hotline to be sure as there are 690 of them on back order or 690 ordered incorrectly. Then they usually have to enter that number into the order so it gets processed, it is worth mentioning to them to speed up the process.

Re: Maybe they aren't ordering them correctly?
Talked with the dealer on 12/19. Dealer indicated they still did not have a delivery date for the new TCU. Dealer confirmed there are 690 TCUs on back order. It is amazing that with 690 cars needing new TCUs that the internet is not indicating any complaints about cars being out of service waiting for TCUs. This is day 16 for my car plus three more at the dealer. Dealer has indicated he may reassemble the car and return it to me until the new TCU is received. The dealer indicated a PuMa was not required for this situation??

Re: Check this out
I try to keep this forum updated but it is just so hard to put up attachments such as PDFs and the like. Even pictures are harder to do here. Plus this one (forum) is not very active.

Re: Maybe they aren't ordering them correctly?
Have they contacted their parts hot line to see what the problem may be? Just to make sure they did order it correctly?
Have you contacted customer service yet and made the aware of the situation and the amount of time you haven't had your car?
They troll these boards and I cant believe they haven't put up a post yet to contact you.

Re: Maybe they aren't ordering them correctly?
I contacted customer service and the only thing they did was confirm that their was no delivery date established for the TCU. I have had discussions with the service manager and the manager of the dealership that resulted in BMW indicating shipment of TCUs MIGHT start during the week of 12/26. The dealer is and has been good. Yes I would have expected something from BMWNA by now.

Re: 650 recall for TCU replacement
I did talk with BMWNA on 12/14. The person I talked with just confirmed that the dealer did not have a delivery date for a new TCU. My car is still at the dealer as of 12/27 with no indication of a delivery date for the new TCU. The car went in on 12/4. I need a plan from BMW that will correct this situation. I have not found any other person in this same situation. The dealer has indicated that they have three other cars in this same condition.

LEMON LAW IT!! read inside
most states if it's 20 or 30 days in the shop for anything odds are high you can lemon law it and get a new one... Seems like you have good case being that your $80,000 car is useless and no timeline in sight.
In NJ it's 3 repair attempts *OR* 20 or more days in the shop.. if you get past that 20-30 days in the shop then you have met the conditions for lemon.

Re: LEMON LAW IT!! read inside
I got my 650 back today. I almost forgot how great that car is. The car is not the problem. The management of a recall was the problem. The TCU was not replaced but a delivery date has been established. BMW has closed this issue in a manner that I would expect from BMW.
