    Unfortunate fate of my e28...

My e28 m5 met its fate this week with the concrete barriers (both inside and outside) on the Hughs Parkway on-ramp to the NB 405. Unfortunate because I was in the process of prepping the car for track day at willow springs in march.

I will going down with the adjuster to see the car at the towing yard today. Front-end sheet metal is damaged, left rear touched the concrete barrier, more details later...but I believe they will total the car. If that is the case I will need to work with the adjuster on the value of my car and then try to salvage the car for parts.

Has anyone gone through this process?

Man, sorry to hear that! That sucks.

Here's my tale of woe in dealing with the insurance company. In determining a value for your car, you will need to persuade them with documentation that your car is worth $xxx. Don't take no for answer and do not end negotiations once they give you a number. Keep fighting for your number.

    Been there, done that . . . .
Mine had 157k on the clock. They came with the first offer for something like $10,500 which actually surprised me somewhat, I was expecting an insulingly lowball number. I did produce the rceipts for $5k plus in paint and body 6 months earlier and we came up to $13.2 minus $1600 to retain ownership. They called a couple of parts yards to come up with that number. This is where higher mileage helps you a bit. ;-) I did forget to tell them about the new $4200 transmission that went into the car that year . . . .

You may want to email me for more on my experience or because I own one e28 M5 too many . . . .

    what an honor??!?!

I was told that they would like to list the m5 as totaled, and they want to take it away...

My mechanic agreed that the car is tweaked...right shock tower sits very close to firewall, windshield dislodged from a-pillar, b-pillar cracked at weld to roof, ripple in roof. It was bad when I saw it in the body-shop yard, but thank GOD no one was hurt and I was able to walk away...and all four wheels are still round!!

I'll be calling the adjuster tomorrow to see the fate of the M.
