Re: run flat replacement or not?
I agonized for a couple of weeks over this about 10,000 miles ago. Ultimately I chose to stay RFT with the OEM Bridgestones. I heard the claims of softer ride and possibly quieter. Most of those that did change seem to prefer the PS2s. But these had their detractors as well. I like my ride, do not believe I had excessive road noise and my tires lasted 30,000 miles on rear and probably had 4-5k left in fronts but changed them all at the same time. I have done auto-x and extremely aggressive ToD (Tail of the Dragon) driving and I am pleased with performance of the RFTs. Could there be better, sure but by what margin? On the other side is the confidence I have in these tires in the safety factor in aggressive driving (and of course NORMAL driving). I had a bad blowout on a good condition Pilot Sport while doing some twisty driving years ago and I guess that extra margin keeps me in the RFT camp. I also have been fortunate in that I have had no punctures or other problems that some have had so I have not had to scramble looking around for a tire when they are in limited supply and availability. I purchased my replacements from Tire Rack and they shipped to my BMW dealer for install. About $40 each mounted and balanced. OBTW, this is the first car Iíve had that went from 0 miles to replacement (30K) with no vibration or any work on the tires at all. The replacements have been just as solid as the first set.
