Help on iPod install (Cobradav...)?
Hey all
I have a 2004 645 cab with the 6 disc changer and I have a few questions. I realize that this has been asked several times on this board so I apologize for asking yet again...
Any suggestions on where to buy the ipod integration kit for the best price?
Does anyone have easy DIY instructions? I am pretty handy but would love some guidance.
I believe that it will work on my build date (July 2004). I have bluetooth currently activated but have not yet had success with MP3.
Any other input would be appreciated before I begin the project?
Thanks

Our very Howardmw did a DIY write-up here
http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e63/8099305-1.html
But until you get MP3 working this will require dealer intervention. And they will charge you if its AFTER your iPod install and it may not go so smooth. Fo MP3 forst then follow Howards instructions. There are other writeups on other boards as well but I really don't think you need anything more than Howard provided.
As far as the ipod unit only a BMW item available from dealer. If you are BMWCCA member you ususally get a discount. Or there are some online dealers that do discounts but you pay shipping so may be break even.
Over on b i m m e r f e s t a new site sponser is advertising a 25% discount on parts to members

Re: Our very Howardmw did a DIY write-up here
Howardmw's instructions worked for me (already MP3 capable), except for the initial instruction to remove the glove box. I still haven't figured out how to do that in a 6-series, but removing the glove box isn't necessary if you are willing to route the iPod connection wire into the glove box directly from the CD changer tunnel.
Omitting the glove box removal, swapping the iPod interface for the CD changer turns into a 20-minute job.
It's still a good idea to release the glove box support strap from the right side of the glove box door(circular retaining clip slips off freeing fabric washer and support strap) and remove the damper from the left side of the glove box (moves left off the pin on the left side of the glove box door). This makes it easier to reach into the CD changer tunnel.

Re: Our very Howardmw did a DIY write-up here
Thanks very much. I will have to get back to the dealer to have them "reprogram" the MP3. I have asked to have it completed on my last two visits and it seems like they just didn't do something. Is there a SIB I could direct them to regarding my model year to properly activate the MP3?
Thanks again...
