infrequent traveler to Europe - rental BMW in Norw

ay. I will be traveling with some clients to Europe (June or July). The objective is some plant visits in Norway. Fairly flexible on the European arrival point but, of course. wouldn't want to be days from Norway.

Would like to rent a nice piece of BMW machinery for about two weeks. Does anyone have any insight into this possibility?

rent a 320diesel or 330d if you can

you can not get them here and you will be impressed with the power and fuel economy. or try the 120d for a change !
My favorite car was a E46 320d Touring with a 5spd. excellent power and large enough for a travel and yet I get 35mpg easily ! in eu you could order any model with an M kit which means the 320 can look like an M3 (almost) and still deliver 35mpg. top speed is somewhat limited to about 133mph but any time we went over 120 it was traffic or construction so we had to slow down anyway. a speady 100-105 was all we could do for a long time and the car felt great and very stable. (all the weight helped probably - 4 passenger and their luggage) to drive over 100 and get 35mpg you need a 320i !!! It was a perfect car. 5 spd manual and a/c but clotch seat, no sunroof, no navigation no any other gizmo and 16" wheels (225/55x16)

thanks. I need room for four adults so I'm

leaning towards the A6. Circumstances may change so I may get a chance to try the diesel. I wouldn't have considered it with out you comments. I remember the 535d was car of the year but diesel just never entered my mind. Thanks.

    4 adults = 320d new 3 is as big as old 5

the new 3 series is large. it is huge compare to the E30 and E36. I think too big but this a trend. a 530diesel also good choice. with a fuel being little over 5.50 in europe you will love the fact that they deliver 30+ mpg on average and yet they will match their petrol sized partners. the 530d equal to the 530i and gives 25% more miles for a gallon of fuel which cost 10% less at the pump.
a 320d equal to the 323 and on on on. a 740d is one thing to try, a monster torque !

Settled for a SLK 200. Best other choice was a

A6 but turned out only to need a car for the time I was traveling alone. Nice car which gets as much out of the 2 liter as you could expect but was finished around 225 kph. The roof is so simple - three days in the sunshine around Nurburg.

The only thing that was ready to play on the autobahn was the BMW 530d wagons. All over the place and can move.

Had a brief glimpse of a Porsche GT3 but he was here and gone before I could get to speed.

IMHO Germany has it right for driving pleasure.
