    Replacement stereo fir E90

    Hi folks,

    1st timer here!

I'm about to take delivery of an '07 E90 and am going crazy trying to decide on which car stereo to install. My current Bimmer has an Alpine 3-CD in dash changer and and I'm running a V12 [?] Alpine amp into 4 top of the line Alpine speakers + sub - total cost was about $3.5k in 2000. I've been extremely please with this rig and now need something for the new Bimmer.

I would have liked to have gotten a hard drive based unit, but virtually all of the companies that were making these things a few years ago no longer are making them. I would also like to have a head unit that can handle SACDs (I have never had any luck with Sony products. All of mine have died prematurely, so that company is not an option).

Can anyone recommend a single-din head unit that can play SACDs? Is there a consensus on which company makes the best head units these days?

Thanks for any help you can provide!!

If by single din you are thinking of replacing the MID, that is ill advised. How are you going to access all of the functionality that the MID controls?

(What's a MID?) Aren't all of the controls accessible on the dash?

Pardon my ignorance. Just got the car yesterday and haven't even read the manual yet.

    Re: Replacement stereo for E90

Does anyone know if the "Professional" stereo has pre-amp outputs?

    Thanks!

I was goin to do the same thing but I end up just adding a alpine powered subwoofer and this gave a nice bass boost.

Isn't the radio on the MOST bus in all E90s??

The bus is a fiber optic loop and if you break it half the displays in the car go away.

My Logic 7 certainly is on the loop and I experienced major problems when installing the accesory iPod adaptor because the BMW (actually Alpine) instruction sheet showed an incorrect connection for the fiber optic interface.

The radio programming also may be interfaced with the main car programming.

You may be able to tie the fiber optics together with the radio out of the system, but these cars are so complex I would hate to predict what would happen.

You better check into these things before you start. This isn't your father's Oldsmobile.
