    San Francisco vacation info

My family (2 Adults + 2 Teens) will be traveling from the east coast to SF for a week long vacation in August. I wanted hotel reccomendations in downtown SF that are moderately priced (<$200/night)safe and convenient to public transportation.

Also any must see family sights? We plan to rent a car for part of the time for day trips.

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: San Francisco vacation info

I highly recommend using Priceline for hotels in San Francisco. Last time I was there I was able to get the St. Francis for around $140 a night. We had a huge room and the hotel is beautiful. With Priceline you can request a particular part of town, and level of hotel. Then, name your price. The downside is that you don't find out the hotel until it is booked and paid for. But, I've used Priceline time and time again and have never once been disappointed in the hotel I got. I once got the Hilton in San Fran for $80 a night.
As far as things to do, definitely go see Alcatraz. Your kids will love it. Make sure you get reservations in advance as it almost always sells out. Fisherman's Wharf is very touristy, but still fun. You can take the cable car from downtown right to the Wharf. If you have questions about booking hotel on Priceline send me an email. Good luck.
