Carb cleaner Vs. Paint thiner? What's the differen

Yo, I am rebuilding 40DCOE's, and was told to put them in paint thiner. I was wondering if I used carb cleaner, would it do just about the same thing, or does it remove all that nasty crap. I have cleaned the outsides, and put them in paint thiner, but I was just wondering if the carb cleaner could do better than the paint thiner, and get where I couldn't clean. Paint thinner is like $1.80 a gallon, and carb cleaner is $13.00 a gallon. Big difference.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Carb cleaner much better at removing petrol residues, especially on the internals, jets etc.
But cleaning body first in thinners is good first step, if any staining remains on exterior body could finish up with . But carb cleaner best thing for internal works.

In the UK we pay 5 -$7 for 1/2 litre carb cleaner.
