    Drove a 335i Coupe yesterday....scratching my head

Something is just not right anymore with BMW's. The twin turbo 335i Coupe is definitely a corker (fast, immense grip, looks pretty good except for the wheels), but the soul is definitely gone. Stylistically the car is a winner inside and out. The panel fits are true precision, the seats are probably the most comfortable I have ever sat in, the suspension harshness/comfort ratio is pretty good for an "all things to all people" kind of setup. The problem is the authenticity of the driving experience. I felt the same thing but much worse with the 650i. You get out of the car after a spirited drive and you scratch your head in wonder if that perfect apex through your cul-de sac was you or the car. The digital perfection that the Germans have "crafted" is too electronic and robotic. The weight is in the steering wheel, but it feels artificial completely disconnected from the rack. Why are BMW's (and all cars for that matter) so over boosted with power steering? Why can't they get the gearing right and just use a small electric pump? GIVE ME MY ROAD BACK BMW!!! Long live the e28 M5, and may I live long enough to buy another one.

Was thinking about a 1 Series to replace the Matrix,

    Same problem... mz4 coupe?

    Hey Bob,
I've been thinking of selling the 850 and the M5 for something newer. Have you had a chance to drive the e46 M3 or the mz4? I'm wondering those seem like the mostly likely modern candidates to come close to the feel of the e28....

I need to drive an M coupe..

I wonder the same thing all the time..

I will keep the M5 but would be nice to trade my e36 M3 for an M coupe... if it has any "life" to it..

No, but I drove the Original M Coupe....

and thought it was in my top 5 of all time greats. That car was a complete hooligan mobile, very happy to throw its tail out and let you control the slide. I know it has rear floor integrity issues, but from what I have heard, you really need to beat the snot out of the car to do that. Your auto-xing would probably beat the snot out of it. The reviews I've seen for the Z4 M Coupe sound pretty good (sharper and stiffer than the original), but good luck finding one to test drive. The e46 M3 would be a great option since there are SOOOO many performance parts for those cars. You could swap out the entire suspension if you wanted. You should look at a Mini CS for all your town driving and a Lotus Elise/Exige S for weekends. Both cars sip gas (not that that is an issue) and are stone reliable.

My personal favorites to date from a handling/feel standpoint:
    1. e28 M5 with Dinan Stage 3 suspension, Koni adjustable up front
    2. Original M Coupe, bone stock
    3. Porsche Boxster/Mini Cooper with JCW package
    4. Ferrari 360
    5. Ford GT

Hope to drive some day: Any Porsche 911,993,997, all the M3's, Aston Martin DB9, 1 Series

Yeah, Turner Motorsports and a couple dealers>

It was a decent show last year, but rumor has it this year will be MUCH bigger. It will probably be e60 M5 clowns showing off again (I really want to know where those baggy pants 20 yr old fools get +$90k to buy those cars), but it's still a fun Sunday afternoon thing to do. If you ever wanted to get up close and talk to Will Turner, this is the place. He loves to walk the cars and shoot the brezze with anybody/everybody, super nice guy. Maybe Mario will come down too. I haven't heard from him in a while.
