aux fan will not shut off

My auxiliary fan keeps running indefintely after I shut off the engine. I turn it off overnight by unplugging the fuse.

I am assuming this is just a relay/switch that's shorting out. Can someone tell me which/where? Are there multiple possibilities? What part number to order?

    thanks,
    js

    Probably the relay.

The normal speed relay may be stuck on. It's relay # 15, the one in the corner close to fuse 30.

Unplug the relay. Terminals 2 and 6 should be open.

If you connect 12 volts to terminal 4 and ground to terminal 5 then terminals 2 and 6 should close.

For the part number look up the "normal speed relay" for your car. It may also be called "low speed relay".

Pulled up onthe relay but didn't/couldnt remove it

My aux fan appeared to be stuck on after car turned off in cold weather...

So... I need a new relay? How much does that cost?

How do these come out - pull straight up?

    Need a tool for this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Yes straight up. Pull harder.

It's not easy to grip. You may need to pry it a bit to get it started, but be careful not to short any pins.

These relays don't cost much. Assuming that's the problem, you'll have to find the right one for your car. The part number on the old relay will help.
