Redline SI-1 or BG-44K injector treatment?

    Guys,

My car has 73,000 miles and I decided to blow some soot out of my injectors. Heard good stories about Redline SI-1, less frequent ones about BG-44K (but nevertheless positive).

The question is: for you all having experience using these additives/cleaners/hot soakers, should I apply it in small increments or use the "shock therapy" (entire bottle/can) to one tank of gas?

For example, even though the directions on the Redline bottle state to use the entire thing and dump it in with a full tank of gas, my indy cautions NOT to do that as it may burn up the O2 sensors.

    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Both are good. BG-44K has been called "overpriced" for what it does by some. Redline is proven to be an excellent performer (discussed and analyzed to death in other forums I participate in).

Redline can increase lead and/or iron in your oil after use. Use it before changing your oil and if you're sending your oil to a lab don't be surprised by higher readings of these metals.

Techron causes the same side-effect, FYI.

As you seem to be more educated on this subject I'd appreciate you pointing me to the forums that beat this topic to death.

BG-44k seems to be more concentrated. Nevertheless, would you apply it gradually or use one bottle/can with one tank of gas?

Personally I shock it with the proper dose, once, one or two tanks of fuel before changing the oil. In many cases the chemicals continue to reside in the system and work even after that first tank is consumed. This keep contamination of your new oil down.

I've now taken to a constant dose with an upper cylinder lube product - either FP+ from Lube Control
link here or Lucas fuel treatment/Upper Cylinder Lubricant.

This is continuous fuel treatment at a prescribed ratio. It keeps the system clean without strong chemicals, resist carbon buildup, lubricates valves, fuel pump, injectors and, in some cases, improves fuel economy. Lucas is cheaper to run, but I found that it reduced my engine performance and response in low throttle angle (0-25%) situations. Varying the recipe didn't help. The LCD products didn't have any downsides so I'm running them now every fillup.

One site that comes to mind is the forums at Bobistheoilguy.com

There's all kinds of people with all kinds of opinions but there's good information there when you learn how to sift.

    Craig.

Follow the directions on the bottle/can. I have (m

used both Techron in the past and a few years ago bought a case of BG-44K. BG is a comericial product not sold in stores to the general public.
I've probably dumped in 6-7 cans of BG over the last 50K miles. Last winter when I was doing the CCV and valley pan gasket (at 97K) I looked at the back side of the valves for carbon deposits, a few specks on 4 of the 32 valves. I checked the spray pattern of all 8 injectors as well as their flow pattern. All was fine.
Either is a good product, but for it to do what it is suppose to do, the concentration has to be correct. Dump the whole bottle in and don't worry about the O2 sensors. I usually put a can in just before I fill up and then go on a nice long trip, ~200+ miles.

Re: where in Canada Redline SI-1 or BG-44K ?

I've seen Redline SI-1 at Canadian Tire and Parts Source I believe. jrponline also has it. I haven't seen BG-44K anywhere. When I was looking at trying it I was going to have to order. Some vehicle dealers may have BG-44K - you'd have to call around.

You can't get BG-44K over the counter. It is sold at dealerships or tire/service stations only. At least here in the US.
