Power steering fluid for a BMW 850

I own a 1991 BMW 850 and the owners manual instructs to use only Pentosin 11s power steering fluid with a warning NEVER to use Pentosin 7.1. However, there is a sticker on the power steering fluid reservoir cap that says only to use Pentosin 7.1. Both Pentosin fluids are the same color,-- Any suggestions.

You can use 11s in a car that is designed for 7.1

But not vice versa. The 8 series uptil 1994 should be able to use either, just don't mix them. I use 11S in my car since the last flush and fill even though it came with 7.1.

Essintially they are the same thing. 11S is just synthetic version of 7.1. So it is like the difference of Motor Oils.<html>

    Re:pentosin 11s or 7.1?

Mine has a green sticker on the power steering reservoir cap saying 11s and when I peeled it off has 7.1s engraved on it. I am sure that 11s is correct for mine. DO NOT MIX or put wrong one in-youre seals will degrade!

    I have a 850 1992 euro.

I think that BMW didnt change the cap engraving so they just put a sticker to save money-lazy gits!

Up until late 1993 (MY early 94) the E31 used 7.1.

In your case, I suspect that the previous owner decided to upgrade to use the synthetic 11S (Which I think is a good move, as I have done the same). Thus the sticker to denote the current fluid as opposed to what it came with.<html>
