    horrible night!

Last Saturday morning was pretty crappy! My Mom passed away after a long bout with cancer. Got the call that she passed at 4:30am. That was bad enough! But, there was a huge storm that blew through at that same time. I jumped in my 750il to head over to her house. One of the streets on the way to her place had flooded. It always does this in that same spot every time it rains. I've driven through that flooded part many times in the past. I got to the flooded part, drove through it slowly. The car died right in the middle of it! Engine seized. Called my brother to come and push me out of the middle of it and left the car on the side of the road. Today, my insurance adjuster called and they totalled the car! The local BMW dealer quoted them a price of $24,000 for a reconditioned V12 engine!!! YIKES!!! It will be interesting to see what they give me for it. Anyway, if anyone knows of an '01 750il for sale let me know....I'm looking!

    Re: horrible night!

Very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Hope family is good, she is in a much more comfortable setting now. God Bless. As for the 750- why don't you see what the ins company will let you buy the car back for salvage? Put a used motor in it yourself. Best wishes for you and family.

its time for an upgrade anyway

my 750il had 130k miles on it. It was getting a little rough around the edges. Don't think it'll be worth searching for an engine, worrying about what might be wrong with it. Not to mention, having a car with a salvage title that I'll never be able to sell. I just hope the insurance company gives me enough to pay it off and have some left over for a downpayment! KBB shows 13.5k blue book trade-in value. I.....

wouldn't let them away for any less. Go for retail value, that's what it would cost you to replace it. Usually you can meet somewhere in the middle with the ins co. Good luck, I would be curious to hear how it turns out.

sorry about your Mom and car. the storm time is

    perfect for the X5.
The 750iL is Not the car for flooded roads but I still don't know how the water could have got into the cylinders unless it was over 2 feet. anyway the E38 is a good but complicated car. let the insurance company offer you something then if not enough you can always fight it.
take off anything you installed extra or show receipts of them to raise the value

yeah, the X5 would have been perfect...but....

....I had loaned it to my brother from out of town who came to push me out once it stalled. The water was only about a foot deep. Worse part, waiting for the tow truck later in the day I watched a Corvette go right through it without any problem at all!

go chevy go... I always said the GM is reliable

if you have two of them :-) X5 better but the 750 should have handled 1 feet of water. I got stuck with a rented bonneville once, I drove through 2 feet of water. Bonny lasted about 10 seconds. I pulled the car out with a Van and called rentacar company that they piece of junk died. They gave me a Lincolc Town car because that was the only one on the lot at the time :-) I drove the Lincoln like I stole it. Enjoyed the ride but got scared anything over 90mph ( it was in 1992)

but seriously, don't worry about the car. Loss of your Mom is the real issue. my condolences and take care of who needs (more) help in a family.

    I'm shocked!!!!

the adjuster called me today. He started by saying that he was having trouble evaluating my car because there weren't any for sale in my area. He said that his initial evaluation was $7800, but then he said that my car was in excellent condition and what did I think it was worth. I told him that KBB and NADA listed it somewhere between $10k and $12k. He called back a few minutes later and said that they would pay me $11,500!! I think that is pretty good for a car that I paid $14900 for almost 4 years ago! Matt
