Thinking about getting a 650 cabrio

I have been considering the 650 cabrio, vs M3 cabrio. At present I drive a Z4 3.0 manual six speed transmission.
Any input about 650 would be appreciated, such as which transmission, ...
Also would like to know when the next gen 6 series is due (2011?).
    ThanksRAD2

Re: Thinking about getting a 650 cabrio

We just had a new member on our 6er site (link in signature) go thru the same decision process. He ended up with the 6er (MY04). Ride in M was too harsh for him. That does not mean it would be for you, howver, just his take after the back to back test drives.

6er more luxu, M more raw. You cannot go wrong either way, just a matter of YOUR taste.

Are you considering both new or used or don't care?

The F12 (next sixer) is slated for 2011. I have hopes, however, that BMW will infuse either or both the V8tt and DCT (or whatever BMW chose to call it) tranny in the current e63 / 64 in MY09 or MY10. I like the current styling enough to not wait if and when these two drivetrain marvels appear in the 6er.

Re: I was thinking new 2008

These days I am seeing 3-4k off MSRP. Not like MY04 when first released when you had to pay a slight premium in some markets almost like the new Ms when they hit the showrooms..

I am scheduled to do a MY08 650 vert drive in three weeks for the "cause" I have not seen the refreshed '08 in the flesh yet but my sense is that they are good changes.

They are very mature now and all areas seem to be very stable as far as reliability. Each new option seems to have a few growing pains but quality/reliability keeps improving.

if your doing any long distance traveling you nee the 650. the 3 series woth sport pkg and the m3 all have too harsh of a ride. after driving them for 10 hours you step out of the car with a jittery feel for the next x hours. with my 545 and 650 i did have that issue and the 650 is the best. the 650 is not as sharp[quick] handling but the 650 is real close. you wont be sorry with any 650. if your driving it in stop and go traffic look at the active cruise. i've never regretted the option and will get it on any new car in the future.

    Re: Thank you cobradav

I came out of my 645Ci into an 08 SL550.

Pretty car, strong engine, but big mistake, big car for no storage. Even failed the 2 golf bag test, and absolute minimum.

I put my wife into the 2008 535xi wagon [nice vehicle, great engine] that she wanted, pocketed the difference. But in retrospect, I think the 6 is the car for me. My problem now is do I go back in at the end of this series' model life or wait for the new car?

Dunno. They've resolved my problem with creme beige with the saddle brown interior, although I haven't seen it, it appeals far more than my too light interior did. Unlike some readers, 360 horses is all I need, and turbos sometimes place stresses on engines that cause problems.

I don't think there is another coupe out there that blends grand touring, styling, handling-without feeling like a farm wagon on uneven pavement, and some space quite like the 6 does.

Oh I think your right in your logic. But for the torque figures on the TT, I would be satisfied with the current 4.8L (I of course have the "puny" 4.4L). But I do a lot of twisty road stuff and would love to have those extra ft/lbs on the Tail of the Dragon. So I wait. I think the current refresh with the SPORTS STEP ought to be brilliant. I too wouild look at the new Saddle Brown for an interior. It is very elegant / rich looking and goes well with several exterior colors.

    DO IT;)

i have the nite vision. its helpful if you live in an area with a lot of joggers [ which i do]. other than that is just a means to separate you from $1000. you can use it to do heat loss surveys by pointing the car at the home. it really shows where the heat is being loss.

I had Night Vision on my 750.

It was, in my opinion, a ridiculous waste of money.

The facelifted SL that's coming ('09?)...

... just ruined that car. Shame, really.
