    Airbag Light comming on

I had to go into the driver side door tody to adjust the window travel. The stop screw had bent and was slipping below the stop plate. Problem was solved. But in so doing the airbag was disconnected and I had the ignition on so I could move the window up and down to adjust. I'm sure OBD picked up no airbag present and so now the light. Is there a reset sequence to perform?

Either borrow an airbag tool or just wait for the

cycle starts (maybe 14) to tell the ecs memory of no airbag trouble.

    No such cycle start reset

Once an airbag light comes on, the only way to make it go away is to actually reset it. Unlike a check engine light, it will not go away on its own. My airbag light was on for almost a year at one point until the dealer reset it at a service and then it stayed off. So obviously there was no continuing issue, but probably hundreds of start cycles had no effect on it.

I'm sorry about you waiting for a whole year

to reset the bag-light...it took me approx. seven starts for the light to go off after it was disconnected.

I'm not sure what you mean

What do you mean by "after it was diconnected?" Do you mean the airbag was disconnected? Or the sensor? Or the light itself?

Are you sure your bulb didn't just burn out? ;o)

If you airbag light did really reset itself, then that's the first time in 8 years of being here that I have heard of a self-resetting SRS light. The only resets I have heard of involved someone actually resetting them rather that just waiting for a certain number of starts.

My airbag light was on for almost a year ?????

I don't understand that one. As much as you seem to stay on top of every issue about Z3s, I can't see someone like yourself riding around with the airbag light shing in his face for a year. All the pre check winterization crap...and still didn't fix that annoying light? I'm disappointed JTP. I know that upsets you ....BIG GRIN

Re: My airbag light was on for almost a year ?????

It came on after I did a very thorough cleaning, including vacuuming under the seats. I checked all the connections and they were attached. So I knew that the airbag was active, just that I had bumped a connection a little too much when I was reaching under there. I didn't see any need to spend $80 to have a light reset when I was confident that there was nothing wrong with the system.

Now I have the Peake SRS reader, so it would be reset within minutes. But thanks for your concern.

connector under the pass seat...the bag light came

on, and after connecting the plug with some starts light went off, I do own the tool to cancel the light, in that time didn't have it. Strange you mention, well listen to this, every time I used the cruise control in cross country and if I want to accelerate with the cruise control engage, the bag-light would come on...again after a few starts the light would go off, so I decided to buy the tool, haven't use it since.

Sounds like you have a Gremlin in there

And the Gremlin must have a reset tool, too! ;o)

    trying to learn something here?

When you were vacuming did you set the machine in a seat? I have been following up on problems related to electric motor RF signals being picked up and setting off seat sensors. Some reports of computers being set in the RH seat while turned on doing the same thing. Or you could have bumped a plug connection and momentarly dispurted the signal. Presume you had the Ign. on listening to tunes while cleaning which would have powered up the SRS system.
Just wondering. Am sure you will need to read and answer a fault code to clear the light.

    I bumped the connector

When I turned the car on, the SRS came on. I knew that the connectors were sensitive, so I went back and jiggled it, then wrapped a zip tie around it to make sure it would stay together. A year later, they reset the light and it stayed off as I expected it would.

No RF, just simple mechanical disconnection, which I didn't realize until it was too late.

    That shouldn't be enough .....

those connectors lock together and should stand for being bumped around a little without breaking contact.

Tell that to my SRS light

I never had an SRS light
    I vacuumed under the seat
The next time I turned the car on, I had an SRS light
I checked under the seat, and the connector was partially dislodged

    You do the math.

Thanks for letting me know... I drive all the

way to BFWA to have a very nice dinner and fun talk with you wife and you don't reset my light? Mine has been on since crossed the river from Memphis TN and the road was so terrible on the other side that I thought I had four flat tyres fer sure..... And after I paid you the big bucks for fixing my wind screen washers? Sheesh, I get no respect......<font color=white>
