Door lock problem
I've had my '02 M3 since new.
Starting yesterday, I have a problem with my door locks. Pushing the unlock button on the fob causes the lights to flash -- but the doors don't unlock. Pushing the lock button DOES cause the doors to lock. So the motors work ... but they only work one direction.
I am able to open the trunk and the driver's door with the key. But the passenger door -- not so much, since there's no keyhole. Yesterday, I could pull on the inside door pull and that caused the lock button to go up and the door opened. But today -- even that doesn't work. What that means is that right now I cannot open the passenger door at all.
Again -- power locks work, but power unlocking doesn't. Inside passenger door pull doesn't work either (but it did yesterday).
How do I get my door open? And what's the real problem?

It's the electronic module, not the door lock rod.
I had this exact issue, they attempted to fix 3 times by dealing with the door lock and rods. It never fixed it for more than 1 month. They finally changed the electric door module and that has solved it for 6 months.
Good luck, I can't tell you the price as it was under warranty even 12 months after car was out of warranty because it started just before the end of 4 years. lucky me.

Lucky you!
Just want to confirm. You said "They finally changed the electric door module" ... you mean "electronic" right? This is some module under the dash somewhere, not an electric motor in the door?
If you happen to have your receipts from the dealer and have the part number from there, that would help -- I'd be able to look it up by part number and figure out where it is!
Thanks!--

Yeah, I tried that.
No one seemed to have the same problem, at least not that I could find ... on this forum or any others.--

Hmm. They mysteriously started working again.
Intermittent problem. Perfect. That sucks.
I think the mechanical problem with the door can be explained by the deadbolt function. By design, there are situations when the inside door pull is not supposed to unlock the door.
So I agree, this is almost certainly caused by a flaky electric or electronic part. But I don't even know where to start.

Re: It's the electronic module, not the door lock rod.
I guess it's the electric door module and not the door lock itself. Check this website I found,
phoenix locksmith. I hope this ca help you. Good luck.
